Fajar di Ufuk Barat (Dawn in West Horizon)

(2021)

"Fajar di Ufuk Barat" departs from the research on the biography of my great-grandfather, Soekiman Wirjosandjojo (1898 - 1974), who also lived as an early intellectual and political figure of the Republic of Indonesia in the 1920 - 1960 era. My interest originated from the connection between his past decision and my family condition, which is extracted as a tension that brings me to work with the idea of the transition as the main discourse of this work.

In "Fajar di Ufuk Barat," the choreography works without any predetermined movement, which puts me in the condition of an uncertain “future”. These conditions are made to open the possibility for the body to be in an “in-between” state, physically and mentally. Elements of movement, sound, and light are made to create an intense natural atmosphere, which brings a pull between memories and imagination.
